The problem with these shirts.I have enough OCD (and badass cross country running tendencies) to need one for every day of the week. And thusly, every day of my laundry cycle meaning I’d be shenaniganized into wearing the same shirt every day. Sad life.

Post with 2 notes

Reasons why not running sucks:

  • never being hungry - consequentially, never eating
  • Constantly being in a state of endorphin withdrawal
  • Running strengthens your immune system. Therefore, it follows that not running weakens your immune system. And being sick sucks.
  • Needing to rely on external sources (caffeine) for energy boosts
  • being more sleepy than usual, except when you’re trying to fall alseep
  • feeling generally more crumby than usual

Lists are the unofficial theme this week… until I decide it’s something else…

Well, I did it.

Ran my first road race since two years ago, and it was awesome. It was snowing. It was under 40 degrees. I was wearing shorts and, like always, representing the hometown. My family was just on the phone with my grandma, and when told that I ran a race today she asks “did she win it?”.

Have a tree-Anna!

I then proceeded to have a very pleasant Thanksgiving. We all cooked food. Christmas music was playing, which was both really nice and mildly confusing, since I’m not used to my family playing it until winter break starts. It really made me happy and helped serve as a reminder of all the love I’ve found this past year. Like, honestly? This year marks the turning point of when my life started getting significantly better, and that’s all due to the wonderful people I’ve met at UConn. The miscellaneous UCMB kids I’ve befriended, Trumpets, and Trilambs, oh my! I wouldn’t trade any of you guys for the world, not to mention all my friends back home who somehow find a way to stay in touch with me through the hell and high water that is my schedule.

I’m somewhat pleased with my Thanksgiving break. I didn’t get as much studying done as I wanted to (don’t say I can do it this weekend, this weekend is INSANE… insanely good, but insane), but I have done some… adventuresome and worthwhile things. I’m sufficiently pleased.

Questions.

Why do I run?
“Over the years, I’ve given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement.” -Steve Prefontaine
I also do it so I can be faster than you.

Why am I an engineering major?
I love math. I love creativity.

Math is so concrete. There is no uncertainty, your answer is right or wrong. And there’s a simple way to get the answer. It’s like doing a puzzle, so simple and rewarding.

Creativity is so abstract. There’s no solid answer for anything, and it relies on spontaneity and whatever mental capacity you’ve got.

Engineering is the perfect union of math and creativity. You have to be ingenious and think of new ideas that are better than what came before it, but still follow the laws of physics, thermodynamics, AND fit in line with various parameters: the availability of resources, etc. Also, even if I don’t get a job in the engineering field, my experience in college will open doors since in the engineering program, you just learn SO much.

(At least that’s what they tell me.)

Why do I play trumpet?
It’s God’s instrument. Better question: why are you questioning why I play trumpet?

Why am I in the marching band?
Marching band is the single most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. With life, I find that you get out of it what you put in, well, when you put in this much work, and you have 300 other people around you who’re doing the same, the results are amplified (hoHO music pun…) to something really great. Also, you meet and befriend the best people in the world. There’s just nothing to lose.

Oh, and my dad’s the band director.

Why am I a Trilamb?
There are things in life that you need to take seriously. World issues, health, relationships with family, your education, your community… and then there’s a reminder - not everything in life needs to be so serious and cut and dry. Some things have to make you smile, some things have to make you laugh, some things have to remind you to enjoy life for what it is, even in its imperfections. I’m a Trilamb truthfully because I enjoy the company of my brothers, and love the camaraderie that a small organization brings.

When in doubt, this is how to live.

1) Run.

2) Don’t stop.
